I love listening to the “How I Got Engaged story”. They are all so different and unique and such precious memories. This is my How I got Engaged (one of the happiest days of my life) story.

My husband and I have been married for 2 years in October so the memory is still fresh for me and I wanted to share my story about how I got engaged.
Let’s set the scene shall we, it was in 2015 that I decided I wanted to see more of the world, I decided to book us a trip abroad and I thought summer would be the best time, make it nice and hot! We had been together for 9 years at this point. I was 15 when we met.
I booked a trip to Rome. Somewhere I had never been before and it has so much history and culture I wanted to experience. I proper got into planning. I sat down worked out flights, how we would get there, what we would see and when. Like a whole itinerary for our holiday. Luke doesn’t really know how to book holidays! He has never booked one before so I thought I would take the lead and book it.
I booked 3 days in a lovely hotel called Relais De L’Opera which had breakfast included. We had a huge queen bed. They have actually done it up since we went, it now has a spa and gym included, I would love to go again. I booked it through booking.com so we didn’t have to pay until we got there.
I was so excited for the holiday and didn’t really notice what Luke was doing. After talking to him though, its silly how much I missed. He took ones of my ring so he could get the right measurement, without me even realising. He wouldn’t let me go in his bag for anything, clearly hiding the ring.
So how did he propose?
We arrived at the beautiful hotel, hot and sweaty as it was like 36c (about 99F). I wanted to relax a little before we ventured out and walked around the city but Luke was adamant that we should go now. He decided we were going to the Trevi Fountain. I hadn’t planned to go there until tomorrow, but we went anyway. We walked towards the fountain and some of it was fenced off. They had drained the fountain because they were doing maintenance on it.
You could still have your picture taken by it though. Luke took me to this section and then he proposed.
I was not expecting this at all, I was so happy and excited I don’t remember exactly what he said. All I remember him saying was “well it’s not exactly how I pictured it but…” He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was lovely. Lots of people stared though! as it was very busy. We then took a picture together and threw a penny in the fountain, for good luck of course. We went to get one of those famous Italian ice creams and sat down near the fountain chatting.
The rest of the holiday was amazing, we continued with everything that I had booked and thoroughly enjoyed it. Rome has to be one of the best Cities to visit. I recommend it to everyone and at least 3 family members have visited it after us and said it was an amazing holiday. We saw the Pantheon, Vatican, Colosseum, The Forum and lots more! I will write a Rome tour guide at some point.
